    1. Welcome to the course ESOL 2008-2009
    2. About the teacher 7 years blue 2 An hour Spain Cambridge Can you guess what the questions are for these answers?
    3. Term Dates
      • Monday 8 th September – Friday 19 th December
      • Half-term: Monday 27 th October – Friday 31 st October
      • No class on Thursday 23 rd October or Friday 24 th October
    4. Where do I go if I need help?
      • RECEPTION: if you need an ID badge, have lost something, want to report an accident, feel sick, get lost,
      • COUNSELLING AND ADVICE: if you need advice about accommodation, welfare, legal issues, counselling
      • CAREERS OFFICE: if you need help with course or career choice.
    5. The Gym
      • The College has a gym.
      • Staff and students may use the gym for free between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
      • You will have to book an induction before you are allowed to use it.
    6. What are we going to study?
      • In tutorial time, we shall talk about things which can help you with your studies and your life in the UK.
      • For example: we’ll talk about living in the UK, how to stay safe and healthy and how to do well on your course.
      • We’ll also choose student reps for our group.
    7. What are we going to study?
      • General English
      • Skills For Life topics
      • ICT
      • Maths
      • Careers (later in the year)
    8. What will I get at the end of the course?
      • You’ll take ESOL Skills For Life exams in June 2009 and Numeracy exams
      • If you pass your exams and the interview for the mainstream course you will hopefully go on to study BTEC qualifications next academic year
    9. Attendance
      • Attendance is very important during this course.
      • This course is paid for by the UK government and the Department for Education does not allow students to have bad attendance figures.
      • You will be AUTOMATICALLY withdrawn from the course if your attendance falls below 60 % - if your attendance falls below 83 % you will be given a warning and you will lose your place if your percentage does not improve.

      • We have classes at the following times:

      • At the College we understand that every student is an individual. We all have different needs and abilities.
      • That’s why I will talk to each of you individually and together we will make a plan for your studies. This will be checked before the end of the term.
