1. Question 1: Forms and
Conventions
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?

2. Front Cover
A Masthead is to engage and interest the audience into
buying your magazine. As in most magazine the masthead
is at the top and the largest text on the page I went for the
same convention. I developed this by finding an
appropriate font for the audience I was aiming for. I chose
a bold and tall font as I believe that this would work best
with the genre of the magazine and also the type of images
I had produced.
Kickers and Cover lines are an essential part of my
magazine cover as the cover lines are a convention for all
magazines and I also decided that you couldn’t have a
magazine without kickers and cover lines as you would
just end up with an image for the front cover. These are
also an essential item in my magazine as it tells the
audience what to expect will be in the magazine they will
be purchasing.
The main text on the front cover is the headline
as this it the largest and most important as it is
the artist that is going to be repeated throughout
the whole magazine as this is what I am trying to
make prominent amongst the whole front cover.

3. Front Cover
The selling line and menu strip are both similar
and tie the magazine together well. I noticed
this was also another magazine convention as it
draws in the audience. I did try not using a the
selling line and menu strip to see if the
magazine still looked pretty much the same but
this was not the case and I then realised how
important both these things are to a successful
music magazine.
My main image is the largest item on the page as
this is a music magazine convention. I lied my
image on top of the masthead as at the moment
my artist is on top of the world as in the article it
mentions that she is new to the music industry and
is rising to the top

4. Front Cover
I think that the flash is an important
thing in a magazine as this shows that
there is more than advertised on the
magazine and this also draws in more
attention from the audience.
The secondary lead simply means
exactly what is says and this is the
second thing the audience should be
draw to. I followed a magazine
convention of having the secondary lead
paired with a relating image and I think
this works really well with my
magazine as it leaves less white space
and with it being in the bottom corner
below the kickers and cover lines
makes the audience follow the text to
the image.

5. Contents Page
The section header and issue/dateline is
an essential in a contents page as this is
what tells you what page you are on
and also the date to which it has been
published.
The main feature is an image from the
secondary lead on the front page and
this is to show a bit more about that
specific article.
The navigation panel is the main thing every
contents magazine has because this tells you
exactly what is in the magazine and what
pages everything is on.
The section headers are there to divide up
the navigation panel and make it easier for
the audience to find exactly what they are
looking for and it is kind of like the contents
of a section in the contents page .

6. Contents Page
The inset shots are there to kind of like
promote the slightly smaller articles and by
putting an image to the features can give the
audience more of an interest in the feature
article which is intended for. Having inset
shots are also conventional for music
magazines as by recognising the artists face
straight away can lead with a instant purchase
of the magazine.
Although this is not conventional for
magazines I thought that a top 40 charts
would be vital for my magazine as I am
focusing on the charts and this also
makes it appeal to my audience a lot
more as you then don’t have to wait to
listen to the radio for the charts.

7. Double Page
Article
The Headline is used to grab the audiences attention to
the specific page and for this I used the same text to my
front cover as this made the up house style. Because I was
keeping the background white I though that it would be
best to give my headline a text box behind to make it stand
out more as although it is centred it would have too much
white space and although I do still have white space it is
minimal and I think works quite effectively.
The image I used I changed to
black and white to create an
effective look and as I added a
shadow I think it makes it look
like the image was actually the
main background.
Pull quotes are essential in
music magazine articles and
also are a convention. I think
that pull quotes are really
effective because it gives a
sample of the type of language
in the article.

8. Double Page
Article
The article is the most important
thing in the double page as without
it, it would just become a pointless
poster in a magazine. This shows
the audience about the feature
artist and gives them a slight look
into the artists life and what it is
like. For my article I made sure it
related well with my audience and
as it is aimed at older teens I
included some questions involving
social networking and other things
that are important to them.
The inset shot works perfectly for my article as this is
the only thing that is in colour which suggests that is
maybe a memory from the artist and with them all
gathered tightly together suggests love which also
relates to the pull quote.
