  • 1) Pessimistic hypoerglobalizers argue that we see the penetration of a shallow Hollywood culture. Every [What is a Holywood movie? The article argues that there is nothing American about boats crushing icebergs, or heroes saving the world. The second point: Some Americans think that Hollywood in a way harms the morals and tastes of Americans. Three distinct questions. Is Hollywood as powerful as its enemies imagine? Is there an identifiable thing you can sensibly label "American culture"? And does America's domination extend to every corner of the popular arts and entertainment? ] What is the reaction? Can Iranian mullahs or French education ministry do anything about this? NO, says Steger, American popular culture seems to be unstoppable. They create an “ethos of infantilization” similar to the critique of the consumerist culture and the entertainment industry. Gobalcosumerism becomes increasingly soulless and unethical in its pursuit of profit. Moreover, McDonaldization leads to serious health problems: Juvenile obesity, diabetes, cancer, etc. 2) Others argue that it is good to have this homogenization, because it is related to democracy and human rights. Even non-chauvanists might celebrate the intensification of internet or the creation of a techno-culture3) Cultural globalization always takes place in local contexts. Hybridization have become visible in fashion, music, dance, film, food, etc. Bollywood pop songs, Cuban-Chinese cousins, etc.

    10. 10.  Globalization is not a phenomenon. It is not just some passing trend. Today it is an overarching international system shaping the domestic politics and foreign relations of virtually every country, and we need to understand it as such. --Thomas Friedman
