      • Identify the best research oriented professional journal in the field you plan to do research in.
      • We would like to focus on the use of electronic books in enhancing English reading ability of students. The journal that we would like to focus on is ‘British Journal of Educational Technology’
      • Review the table of contents for at least three recent issues of this journal and for each issue identify a research based article you would like to review.

      • Read one of the identified articles of interest to you and answer the questions about it:
      • What is the problem for the study?
      • The differences in children’s comprehension and enjoyment of storybooks according to the medium of presentation
      • What procedures did the experimenter use for the study?
      • - Pilot study
      • - Revise the design of the study and make amendment by shortening the comprehension tests and changing the question types
      • - Introduction of study
      • 132 children (72 girls and 60 boys / 9 years and 9 months to 11 years and 2 months)
      • 2 storybooks (Magicians of Caprona / The Little Prince)
            • Children worked with researcher individually
            • Children read stories with different medium
            • Researcher asked the children’s enjoyment level on stories
            • Children finished the comprehension tests
            • Mann–Whitney test was used to analyse the data
      • What were the major conclusions for the study?
            • The type of medium did not significantly affect the children’s enjoyment of either storybook but more if children read longer.
            • In the comprehension level of the children, for both storybooks, the scores were higher for retrieval type questions.
            • Children enjoy reading much more when narration and online dictionary are provided.
            • Benefits to reading electronic books are the provision of narration, animated pictures, sound effects that relate to the story and the immediate access to the meaning of words.
      • How would you classify the study, according to the six types of research studies we looked at in this lesson?
      • It is a Causal-comparative research. The paper tries to find the cause and effect relationships between storybooks of different medium and the comprehension level of children.
