Slide 1: MITE/MLIM6025 Methods of Research and Enquiry (Leung Pui Shan, Vivian)  Title A Study of Using E-learning Platform in English Language Classrooms in Hong Kong Primary Schools  Research Question Does the e-learning platform affect the English ability of primary school students?  Samples and Sampling Method Two primary four classes of researcher’s school will be chosen. They are chosen since they will be taught by the same teacher in the coming school year. The students in these two classes have the best academic result in the form.

Slide 2:  Why is this important topic to study? - It allows the primary school teacher to make use of the effective methods in enhancing the English ability of students. - Teachers can design or use the best teaching materials in their teaching of English - It gives a direction to the other studies so that more representative researches and objectives results can be found in the future which help teaching and learning of English in primary schools. - It gives ideas to the publishers or the suppliers in designing up- to-dated teaching materials in order to assist students’ learning in English.

Slide 3:  How will data be collected and analyzed? - An experimental design will be carried out. - A pilot study will be carried out (Nov 2008) so problems can be found and amended. - The study will be conducted from Jan to Jul. - The result of first term English exam will be recorded as pre- test scores. - Teacher use didactic teaching (chalk and talk) in class 4A and e-learning platform in class 4B to teach English in second term. - The result of second term English exam will be recorded as post-test scores. - T-test will be introduced to analyse the data collected. - A grid will be used to record the data Experimental Condition (e-learning platform) Control Condition (Didactic teaching) Subjects Pre-test score Post-test score Subjects Pre-test score Post-test score S1S35 S36S70
