      • Project : MMD LAN-Proxy
      • Main Objective:
        • Create LAN-Proxy with dual Internet connection for continuously connectivity for Internet access, sending and archiving meteorological data.
        • Established VPN between regional offices and MMD HQ for EG / HRMIS application access.
      • Initiated regarding the needs to have uninterrupted Internet access for weather forecasting and other meteorological activities.
    • LAN-Proxy
      • What is a LAN-Proxy
        • is a server (a computer system or an application program) that services the requests of its clients by forwarding requests to other servers.
        • A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server.
        • The proxy server provides the resource by connecting to the specified server and requesting the service on behalf of the client.

      • In-house configuration and customization of available OSS applications
        • Fedora – operating system
        • Shorewall – iptables and routing manipulation
        • Squid – web cache service
        • Dansguardian – web filtering
        • OpenVPN – established vpn connection

      • Faster Internet access due to usage of web cache services.

      • Less support and maintenance regarding downtime.

      • Development issue - Lack of references and sources
      • Due to in-house customization, spent lots of time on application testing and trial to get solution.
      • Good support from management regarding hardware acquisition.
    • Savings
      • Less outstation claims regarding problems.
      • Cut off money on installation of new GITN lines at all Regional Meteorological Offices.
