The Power of Digital Philanthropy The Power of Digital Philanthropy Presentation Transcript

  • Kiva:  Implemen-ng  Global   Digital  Philanthropy   By:  Lindsey  Auster-‐Weiss
  • Imagine   being  able   to  help   people   across   the   world   with  one   click…
  • Philanthropy  has  been  transformed  into  digital  social   good  by  providing  worldwide  opportuni-es  to  help.
  • Kiva  is  an   excellent   example  of  an   NPO  using  social   media  strategy   to  promote   digital   philanthropy.
  • Their  slogan  is:
  • Kiva  is  a  completely  digital  company   where  all  fundraising  is  processed   online.
  • Kiva  inspires   people  who   would  like  to   help  globally   from  the   comfort  of  their   local  homes.
  • How  it  works:     Make  a  loan   Get  repaid   Repeat!
  • Borrowers  can   choose  who   they  would  like   to  help  from   thousands  of   different   projects.
  • Currently,  there   are  3,198  loans   available.
  • Whether  its  funding  money  to  buy  a  goat  to  use  to  sell  milk   products  or  seeds  for  vegetaOon,  every  dollar  is  lent  to  a   specific  person  in  need  to  help  them  with  their  cause.
  • There  is  an  opOonal  fee  of  $3.75  to  support  the  organizaOon,   because  100%  of  all  loans  are  given  to  the  borrowers.
  • This  kind  of  donaOon-‐based  approach  is  fundamental   to  the  company’s  success  and  borrowers  achieving   op-mal  fundraising.     4 seconds between loans $4,721,950 lent 7,556 new lenders joined 65,082 lenders made a loan 11,069 borrowers funded
  • They  have  expanded  the  social  good  footprint  through  not   only  people,  but  organiza-ons.
  • Kiva,  a  grassroots  movement   that  was  founded  in  2005,     has  generated  $564,574,275   in  loans  from  1,173,429     Kiva  leaders  with  a  98.86%   repayment  rate.
  • Powerful  example  of  technology  enabling  seemingly   impossible  dreams  to  come  true  through  lenders   who  never  imagined  they  could  help.
  • Kiva  has  made   millions  of   impoverished   people   happier   around  the   world.
