  2. 2. What is Exploring Technology Systems? <ul><li>This course allows students to explore basic technological concepts and principles and related career fields. Topics include design and problem solving, technology assessment, technology systems, technical sketching, CAD, graphic design, modeling skills, computer systems, electronics, and audio/visual production. Activities are structured to integrate physical and social sciences, mathematics, and language and fine arts. </li></ul><ul><li>In Exploring Technology Systems, we work on a variety of projects. The projects are computer based. </li></ul>

  4. 4. Rules and Procedures <ul><li>Rules and Procedures </li></ul><ul><li>Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings. Check the white board for bell-work. </li></ul><ul><li>Be on time. </li></ul><ul><li>No horseplay. </li></ul><ul><li>Use equipment appropriately and safely (see safety rules). </li></ul><ul><li>Return all materials to their proper place and clean up after yourself. </li></ul><ul><li>No gum, candy, food, or drink in the classroom or near the modules. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not leave until dismissed. </li></ul><ul><li>Respect the teacher and classmates. Treat others as you want to be treated. </li></ul><ul><li>Stay positive, work as a team, help your classmates. </li></ul><ul><li>Act like a trustworthy, responsible, young adult and you will be treated as one. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not use “I don’t know”! </li></ul>
  5. 5. Safety in the Technology Lab <ul><li>Students will receive additional safety instruction and training on tool use as needed for projects. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be required to successfully complete a safety quiz. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Safety Rules <ul><li>No horseplay. </li></ul><ul><li>Safety must be your number one priority at all times. </li></ul><ul><li>No loose clothing or hair. Tuck in clothes and put up hair. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep working areas neat, clean, and orderly. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep walkways free from debris, trash, and projects. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not startle a person who is using a tool. Stay away from the person until he or she is finished with the tool. </li></ul><ul><li>Clean up scraps from around a tool once you have finished using it. </li></ul><ul><li>Once you turn off a glue gun, you have to stay with it until it cools or return it to the teacher. </li></ul><ul><li>Never hold a small piece of material in your hand while cutting it with a hand tool. </li></ul><ul><li>When using a cutting hand tool, always cut away from your hand or fingers. </li></ul><ul><li>Clamp down any material when you are cutting and drilling with hand tools. </li></ul><ul><li>Never use a tool or glue gun until you have asked to use it. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep your mind on your work. </li></ul><ul><li>Never rush or hurry. </li></ul>

Safety Rules (cont.) <ul><li>Always wear safety glasses or goggles. </li></ul><ul><li>Let the teacher know immediately if there is an accident or someone is hurt. </li></ul><ul><li>Let the teacher know immediately if a tool or machine does not seem to be working properly or is broken. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not use a tool that is dull or not working properly. </li></ul><ul><li>Never use more force than necessary. </li></ul><ul><li>Never carry tools in your pocket. </li></ul><ul><li>Never use a tool for any purpose it was not designed for. </li></ul>

Safety Rules <ul><li>Do not stand on chairs or tables. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not sit on computer tables. </li></ul><ul><li>Always carry sharp pointed tools pointed down and away from your body, and do not point at anyone. </li></ul><ul><li>Never throw anything in the lab. </li></ul><ul><li>Never run in the lab. </li></ul><ul><li>Cleaning up is everyone's responsibility even if you did not make a mess. </li></ul><ul><li>Safety is everyone's responsibility. </li></ul><ul><li>Safety violations will result in temporary to permanent removal from the lab setting and all lab activities. </li></ul>
