Purpose & Problem-1 CHINESE 507: Cross-cultural Awareness <ul><li>National FL Standards: (knowledge, skills, and an agent of peace maker) </li></ul><ul><li>Communication (Interpretive, Interpersonal, Presentational Mode), Cultures, Comparisons, Connections, Community </li></ul><ul><li>Examine commonalities and differences between Chinese culture and students’ own culture </li></ul><ul><li>Learn the importance of cross-cultural awareness via learning Chinese culture </li></ul><ul><li>Learn to view their own culture and ideology more objectively by engaging in comparisons between some elements of Chinese culture with their own </li></ul>
