    2. 2. Introduction <ul><li>The last surviving Tasmanian aborigine died in 1876. This aborigine was known as Truganini, Trugananna, Trucanini, Trucaninny or Lalla Rooke. </li></ul>Truganini

Early Life <ul><li>Truganini born round 1812, Bruny Island, sth Tasmania </li></ul><ul><li>Mangana’s daughter (Chief Bruny Island) </li></ul><ul><li>Before 18 years, 2 close people died: Mum (whalers) 1 st Fiancée (save from being taken) </li></ul><ul><li>1828, sisters Lowhenunhue and Maggerleede taken Kangaroo Island (off S.A.) also sold slaves </li></ul><ul><li>Soon married Woorrady, died in her twenties. </li></ul>Bruny Island

Early Life cont. <ul><li>1830, George Augustus Robinson, protector aborigines moved Truganini Flinders Island + other aborigines. </li></ul><ul><li>Isolation to save them, most died from influenza (the flu) + other diseases. </li></ul><ul><li>Truganini helped Robinson for settlement for mainland aborigines Port Phillip, 1838. </li></ul><ul><li>Joined rebellion. Sent back to Flinders Island after settlement. </li></ul><ul><li>1856, surviving Tasmanian aborigines Flinders Island – settlement Oyster Cove, sth Hobart. </li></ul>George Augustus Robinson
    5. 5. Final Years and Legacy <ul><li>1873, Truganini survivor of Oyster Cove. Moved to Flinders Island. </li></ul><ul><li>Perished 1873, having asked ashes scattered over D’Entrecasteaux Channel. However, ashes weren’t scattered ‘til April. </li></ul><ul><li>Buried at Female Factory, Cascades (suburb Hobart). </li></ul><ul><li>2 years later, skeleton dug from grave by The Royal Society of Tasmania for display. </li></ul>Oyster Cove
