Transcript of "Magazine drafts and final edits"

  1. 1. Magazine Drafts and Final Edits By Lily Saunders
  2. 2. First Draft Front Cover This is the first draft of my magazine front cover using the image of "Spike" with a transparent background, the background circles that I created on paint using the airbrush tool, the title that I found the font for and edited the outline and the shadows, and the banner with writing on at the top of the page. Date: November the 28th 2013.
  3. 3. Second Draft Front Cover In this draft, I moved the background circles from the center of the page to the bottom left corner of the page. This has the effect of seeming as though they are coming out of the circle around the Anarchy symbol. I will upload a post about the circles soon. Date: November the 28th 2013.
  4. 4. Third Draft Front Cover In this draft I have added in two polaroid frames and a barcode. I used the polaroid frames to add to the bricolage style that I am aiming for. In this draft I have only included the image of “Buffy”, however I will soon add in the image of Terminal Moraine. All magazines nowadays require a barcode, this contrasts against punk ideologies, as they were very anti establishment orientated. To overcome this I added in a tartan print. Date: November the 29th 2013
  5. 5. Fourth Draft Front Cover In this draft I have added a banner to the bottom to link intertextually with the image of “Spike”. I have stuck to the colour scheme of black and blue to do this as they stand out well against each other. Date: December the 1st 2013.
  6. 6. Fifth Draft Front Cover In this draft, I experimented using another polaroid frame and moving the barcode. Date: December the 1st 2013.
  7. 7. Sixth Draft Front Cover In this draft I have added the image of Terminal Moraine, added some banners in and also added a date, a website, a price and an issue number. I placed a torn out note page which I found on the internet, this gives the page more of a DIY effect, along with the boxes and polaroids that are all purposefully tilted on an angle. This links to the Bricolage style adopted by punks. Date: December the 3rd 2013.
  8. 8. Seventh Draft Front Cover I made a last minute change of changing the tartan print surrounding the barcode to a leopard print. This links to one of Banksy’s Barcode and Leopard graffiti, where the barcode is the cage that the leopard has escaped from. The barcode is representing consumerism, and the leopard is trapped by this. Punks also wore leopard print as I will explore in another blog post. Date: December the 8th 2013.
  9. 9. Eighth Draft Front Cover In this draft, I have moved the “plus” to the bottom of the page and added another subheading that advertises the “guess the venue” game within the magazine. Also, I changed the banner at the top of the page to advertise an interview with The Uncommoners. I edited the polaroid frames to make them look more vintage and worn, using a yellowish brown paper. Date: 23rd December 2013.
  10. 10. Final Draft Front Cover In this draft I have, changed the box for guess the venue game, to a box that promotes the upcoming festivals that are published in the magazine. I have also made a few adjustments to the layout. As well as this, I have created my own leopard print for the box on the bottom right of the page and I have used a picture of a torn piece of paper that I took and then edited myself to go behind the text. Finally, I have made a few adjustments to the layout and also changed the hyphen in the title to a safety pin which links in to my punk rock genre of the magazine. Date: 11th January 2014.
  11. 11. First Draft Contents Page This is the first draft of my contents page. I have the main image of “Buffy” on the left, advertising the competition. I have started adding in the titles for the contents page. Date: December the 5th 2013.
  12. 12. Second Draft Contents Page In this draft, I have included most of the contents, using the colour red for the number and black for the writing. Date: December the 7th 2013
  13. 13. Third Draft Contents Page In this draft I have included a an image of “Spike” below the contents, as well as a message from the editor and another competition. I have spread these other two images across the page so that there is a balance between the writing and the pictures. The bottom left picture is one that I took when I went to a gig in a pub. Date: December the 9th 2013.
  14. 14. Fourth Draft Contents Page In this draft I have made my final edit of adding the editor picture (of myself) doing the devil horns sign with my hands and snarling. Date: December the 10th.
  15. 15. Fifth Draft Contents Page In this draft, I have added a caption to the large photo of “Buffy” to fill up some of the black space of the page. Also, I changed the image of “Spike” on the bottom right hand side of the page, by cutting out the background and changing it to a sky background. Date: 18th December 2013.
  16. 16. Sixth Draft Contents Page In this draft, I have changed the title, so that the hyphen between ANAR and Key, is a safety pin, which I took a photo and cropped. I also made some changes to the text to make it more accurate in detail. Date: 6th January 2014.
  17. 17. Final Draft Contents Page In this draft I have extended the features bar to cover the interviews bar, as these are often found to be linked in magazines. Also I have made a few changes to the texts. Date: 11th January 2014.
  18. 18. First Draft Double Page Spread This is my first draft of my double page spread. I have explored using a galaxy print background as it links to modern day styles amongst youths, therefore widening the target audience. Date: December the 12th 2013.
  19. 19. Second Draft Double Page Spread In this draft, I have used an acid wash background. Date: December the 12th 2013.
  20. 20. Third Draft Double Page Spread In this draft, I have found the background that I will use. The colour red has been associated with danger, anger and love. All strong powerful feelings, because it has the effect of increasing your heart rate. I thought that this was appropriate for my double page. Date: December the 13th
  21. 21. Fourth Draft Double Page Spread In this draft, I have inserted the article, an interview between Zack and Dan, as well as included the page number, a title and a short summary of the article. I moved “Zack to the right hand page and put the writing on the left hand side. Date: December the 16th 2013.
  22. 22. Fifth Draft Double Page Spread In this draft, I changed the background to one that I made on photoshop using Radial blur tools and fire like colours. I also added in a photo of the interviewer “Danny Jacks” and slightly changed the layout. Date: December the 17th 2012.
  23. 23. Final Draft Double Page Spread In this draft, I have spread the title across the two pages, edited the columns of writing in the article and made the photo of the interviewer smaller and moved it to the bottom left hand side of page 15. Date: 23rd December 2013.
