  • Liceo Statale “Galileo Galilei”
  • The School has been existing since 1974, at first as a branch of Bergamo‘s Liceo Lussana, then, with its present name GALILEO GALILEI , as an independent Institute. Our school
  • Since then the school has constantly increased its classes and courses. In school year 2009/2010 Liceo Galilei has 36 classes divided into two courses: the Scientific Course and (since 1992) the Language Course. The building outside

    • Scientific Course PNI ( Piano Nazionale Informatica ). The course is five years long and  finishes with a school leaving examination called “Maturity Examination”. Mathematics, Informatics and Physics are taught from the first year.
    Language Course. The course is divided in five years and finishes with the “maturity” examination (school leaving examination). The students can learn three of the following foreign languages: English, French, German and Spanish. Our Courses
  • Scientific Course PNI
    • The course is five years long and  finishes with a school leaving examination called Maturity Examination .
    • The curricular activities always take place in the mornings, from 8.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. (or until 1.30 P.M. depending on course).
    • The course allows students to reach integration between humanistic and scientific cultures, with particular attention towards practical-operative side. During the five-year English teaching, pupils develop a very good final communicative competence, while the continuous use of informatics instruments guarantee them a specific formation.
    Scientific Course PNI
    • Our school joins the national informatics plan (P.N.I.) that involves the following subjects:
    • Physics anticipated at biennial classes
    • More importance for Mathematics
    • Introduction of an informatics curriculum
    • Strengthening the operative activities (computer work and the use of Physics laboratories for experiments and experience). Moreover the teaching of Art History has been introduced in  the five-year courses.

  • Physics Laboratory The laboratory can host 29 students. It’s equipped with modern security system (meeting the standards of the 626 Safety law) and with suitable instruments to discover the different aspects of Physics (rigid body’s mechanics, fluids’ mechanics, heat and calorimetry, acoustic and optics, electricity and magnetism).
    • Classes use the laboratory every week. Laboratory activities have the following function:
    • use the inductive method;
    • formulate hypothesis for the interpretation of events;
    • apply experimental method (verify the laws of Physics);
    • apply the theory of mistakes.

    The process and the analysis of experimental data can be done using a specific teaching software. Physics Laboratory
  • Recently the school has bought an optical telescope useful for the observation of celestial bodies. The progressive development of the instruments improves the quality of the experiments of scientific subjects. It’s built and accessorized with the most modern security apparati (for example: fire-extinguisher,oxygen masks...). It is provided with optical microscope with one or two eye-pieces, connected to the TV with videocameras, laser and other specific instruments. Chemical Laboratory

  • Language Course 4 4
    • The course is divided in five years and finishes with the “maturity” examination (school leaving examination).
    • We study three foreign languages: two for five years (English always, and French, or Spanish in alternative), one for three years (German).
    • The learning of languages is supported by the study of the Italian language and literature and Latin language and literature.
    • The course is characterized:
    • by the use of several didactic methodologies (labs and computers)
    Language Course
    • by the organisation of study weeks abroad (France – Nice; U.K. – Edinburgh; Germany - Augsburg)
    • by the preparation for the European standard level of knowledge of language which gives the students the possibility to pass with success the first certificate of English and/or equivalent certifications in French and German, recognized all over Europe.

    Language Course
    • The lessons are from 8.00 am to 13.30 pm for a total of 35 hours each week for each class.
    • The course includes an hour per week of conversation with a mother tongue teacher for every language we study.

  • Every linguistic class uses regularly the labs to study every subject of the 3 languages. The scientific classes use them every 15 days at least. Languages laboratories In the school there are two languages labs with 28 seats each. The main activities in the labs are the headphones listening and the use of documents in the original language. The lab is provided with a keyboard for the listening and the individual correction of each student in real time.

  • The works of the students are shown to the public in an exhibition in the school at the end of the year called “Liceo in Mostra”. Art laboratories In the school there are two classrooms for the art activities. Each class goes there twice a week. The activities done are mechanical and architectonic drawing and projects, study and techniques of colours, black-white and red drawing, wash drawing and oil colours.
  • Laboratories have at least 14 computers and 7 printers each (the multi-laboratory has 18 pieces and 2 printers in a network). Computer laboratories The school has 2 computers laboratories, one multimedia lab and one assembly hall that can be used as a multimedia classroom. In addition there are many computer points and audiovisual equipment, both fix and mobile.
  • Computer laboratories They are used for at least one hour a week for programming in Pascal and/or for the students to use the teaching software installed(this software includes specific software packages). The multimedia classroom with its 18 pieces connected in a network (LAN) and connected to the internet, is equipped for the use of multimedia products and for teaching activities that include word processing, on-line news in Internet and PowerPoint presentation, etc.
      • The assembly hall, equipped with a screen, a computer, a tv, a visual presenter, a dvd player, a video-cassette recorder connected to a video projector,is used in addition to school

    • The school  library or C.I.D (Centre Information and Documentation), is run by a teacher who performs fulltime tasks. It‘s open every day; twice a week the service is extended also in the afternoon.
    • The library ‘s services are various.
    • The management of lending (books, CDs, VHS, DVD) cataloguing and purchase proposals;

    • Guide to the use of multimedia instruments (INTERNET, INTRANET) for students and teachers, promotion of activities for formation and information on the new technologies;

  • Sport activities
  • School in the mountains At the end of the school year, in June, the Liceo organizes one last activity: the summer trekking, dedicated to pupils and teachers that are keen on mountains and with a “good pace” and ready to walk amid rocks and snow for four days.
  • School in the mountains The group will then  meet in September for the  slides show and  projection  of the video with  the most interesting and exciting moments of the excursion.
  • It takes place every year in the “Palazzetto dello sport” for collecting funds to be given to different charities every year. Christmas Concert During the evening musical groups of students and teachers perform songs and are introduced by students.
  • “ Liceo in piazza” It’s a competition of extemporany paintings, organized in collaboration with the local administration and other local sponsors where all the students interested in art  can participate. It takes place on a Sunday of May. Its theme is  the characteristic of the village; in the afternoon  musical groups of the school perform songs in public, while every “artist” waits  for the award to  the best works, chosen by a jury.
  • “ Liceo in mostra” At the end of the School year the students display, in the school, every work they have done during the year. These are paintings, compositions, multimedial works done during the normal school activities or during afternoon  courses. A lot of works are on  show  for the following  school year, making classrooms and corridors attractive.
  • Competitions INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS GAMES Every year, for many years now, the students of the "Liceo" have partecipated to: The Physics Olympic Games , organized by the Italian Physics association, a competition addressed to the classes of the last three years and they are divided in different stages; The Anacleto Games , the equivalent of the Physics Olympics for the classes of the first two years; The Archimedes Games , or Mathematics Competitions, organized by Pisa’s “Normale University”, in cooperation with the Union of Italian Mathematicians
