  • Catch ‘em young – 6 th form talk. Presence on a well established programme e.g. CMT – demonstrate how Critical Appraisal supports competencies. Joint working with Patient Experience team and Clinical Effectiveness Learning Programme.
  • Reassuring people it isn’t a test and there’s no pressure to contribute – puts them at their ease so they feel more confident in participating. Summary of the basic features of each kind of research can be much appreciated. “That’s an interesting observation”, “So from your experience you think X”. Can actually get you out of a sticky situation if you can’t answer someone else’s question.
  • If you are short-sighted, without glasses you can’t see the audience.
