Zebrahead – the juggernauts (9 frame analysis)

  1. 1. Zebrahead – The Juggernauts (9 frame analysis) By Liam Walker
  2. 2. Frame 1 – 00:04 • This is the first actual shot in the video, it is a long shot of the band with their instruments, this could be the star image of the band. The band are arranged with the two guitarists on the outside, the two singers in the middle and the drummer in the back, this could be because the singers are the main part of the band so they are in the middle to be able to been seen and stand out. The setting is the garage way with a pool party in the background, pool parties are very conventional in the pop punk genre.
  3. 3. Frame 2 – 00:07 • The next frame is a cut jump to a close up of one of the guitarists playing the guitar, this is something that is expected to see in this type of music video.
  4. 4. Frame 3 – 00:18 • There is another jump cut to a close up of one of the singer face, he is currently singing. This could be a use of the star image with a close up so everyone can see him clearly. This is also shown with the use of the blur in the background so his face is much more noticeable which is what is intented.
  5. 5. Frame 4 – 00:46 • In this frame we see two girls in bikini’s walk across the screen, the camera follows them with use of a pan. This is typical to this sort of the music video as we expect to see women not in much clothing around the band members to sexualise them. Also it is a pool party so it is typical clothing for woman to wear when swimming.
  6. 6. Frame 5 – 01:49 • In this frame we see a long shot of some people in the pool enjoying the party with a beach ball. The pool is a conventional setting for the pop punk genre and so are pool parties. The women are not wearing much which is conventional more towards the pop part of the pop punk name, this sexualises women and appeals to the younger men which is the target audience of the genre.
  7. 7. Frame 6 – 02:17 •We see a long shot of the entire setting, both the band and the party going on behind them. The entire setting is a happy scene although the lyrics discuss how times are different for the worse for punk and pop punk bands.
  8. 8. Frame 7 – 02:43 • We see a cut jump to a medium close up of the singer underneath the water singing, this is conventional as I have seen this done a few times. Although it is not so visible in the picture there is am almost fish eye effect which could be to show that his is underwater and also to centre the singer so he stands out, there is also a slight blur around him to make him stand out more.
  9. 9. Frame 8 – 02:47 • In this frame we see the start of lots of little cut jumps done very quickly to show all the band members jump in to the pool with their instruments. This fits in with the genre of being different and standing out as it is not normal to jump into a pool and play instruments.
  10. 10. Frame 9 – 03:58 • This is the last shot in the video, it is a long shot of three girls; once again in bikini’s suggesting that they are being sexualised to appeal to the audience, jumping in to a pool. They are in the centre of the screen so they are meant to be noticed and looked at. At this point in the song the last few notes are being played of the outro. In the background and to the sides we see men smiling while looking at them which once again suggests the women are dressed like this to be sexualised.
