My name is Liam Shortall and I am contacting you so as you may consider me for the purposes of
delivering a high impact and motivational safety talk which focuses on my extensive experience of
working in the construction industry and suffering a life changing injury.
In January 2005, when employed on a major construction project, I was operating an item of plant,
known as a ride on roller, when it overturned and fell down an embankment. As a consequence of
this accident my left leg was severely injured and unfortunately, after considerable surgery, the
injured leg had to be amputated below the left knee.
After many months of rehabilitation and hospital treatment I was eventually allowed to return to
work. My employer, SIAC Construction Ltd, encouraged me to talk to my work colleagues and other
contractors about my accident and the profound and devastating impact it has had on my life and
that of my family.
I have now successfully delivered many such talks, which have all been very well received. Those
who have attended my talks and presentations regularly comment on how my accident story
provides a real life perspective to their health and safety training experience.
Unfortunately, I have recently been made redundant and I am know interested in pursuing any
opportunities available that might give me the opportunity to talk about my accident and its impact,
particularly as part of a health and safety or motivational presentation or training session.
