  • 1. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 2. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Interview OR Questionnaire
    • Gives more personal responses
    • Longer detailed answers
    • Helps the interviewer to see a person’s responses to their product
    • Enables the interviewer to get reliable data and help the audience answer things in the way they want (For example, they may not understand the question properly on a questionnaire)
    • However
    • Time consuming
    • Hard to process all the data
    • - Can be anonymous so not much chance of demand characteristics
    • Quick and easy to carry out
    • Can receive both Quantitative and some Qualitative data
    • However,
    • People may not answer the questions how I want them to if they don’t understand what I am trying to ask
    • May not give reliable data as they could get bored after some questions and start putting whatever they want down
    • Doesn’t allow the participant to give really long and detailed answers
  • 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
    • Quantitative
    • Pros of using this type of data
    • Quick to get
    • Easy to process
    • Receives a general idea of views and opinions
    • Cons of using this type of data
    • Doesn’t get a detailed response
    • Doesn’t allow the audience to give a description of why they liked/disliked certain things
    • Qualitative
    • Pros of using this type of data
    • Enables the person to go into thorough detail
    • Gives a more personal view and is more reliable
    • Cons of using this type of data
    • Hard to process the information
    • Time consuming
Advantages and Disadvantages of Quantitative/Qualitative data
  • 4. What have you learned from your audience feedback? To gain my audience feedback I decided to set up focus groups to watch my trailer and then answer the questions from a questionnaire I had created. This would able me to get a mixture of both detailed qualitative answers and Quantitative data To make sure I received Quantitative and Qualitative data my Questionnaire included both open and closed question. I also allowed the group to speak out and say anything they liked/disliked about my trailer to get a more detailed answer and opinion, just like an interview would.
  • 5. My Questionnaire What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 6. Results from my Questionnaire 1. Are you male or female? 2. Are you 12-13 14-15 16-17 18+ What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 7. Results from my Questionnaire and from Focus Groups 7. What did you like about my trailer? “ Photoshop slides are very good” “ Introducing characters one by one is nice” “ Pan of Goths” “ It was funny, and you understand the storyline” “ The title bits were good” “ It was funny and the ending credits were professional” “ Strong actors” “ The part where the music randomly stops is effective” “ Showed information but not to much” “ The over exaggeration from the character playing Chelsea” “ Rivalry between characters believable” What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 8. Results from my Questionnaire and from Focus Groups 8. What things in my trailer would you change? “ The topless bit was a bit random” “ Don’t show much of the fight bit so then the audience would have something to look forward to” “ Maybe show more sign of the rivalry” “ The actor playing Josh needs to be more confident” “ Make the fight seem more realistic” “ Exaggerate the boys hair flick” What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 9. Results from my Questionnaire 9. Did you find the trailer… ½ - Is where people have said sort of What have you learned from your audience feedback? • 10. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Technology – I uploaded my trailer onto YouTube as well as Facebook in order to get ratings and feedback. From doing this it enabled various people to go into detailed criticism without having a certain question they needed to answer. http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v =1rAc304ZJvs
  • 11. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Negative Feedback I received was...
    • Could have made the diegetic speaking parts louder (by putting them on voiceover type) as they were sometimes hard to hear - Need to do some fine tuning with the sounds
    • Have quicker paced shots
    • Show more interaction between Liam and then the two other girls (Chelsea/Lauren)
    • Couldn’t take the acting/plot seriously
  • 12. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
    • Entertaining and humorous (Especially the gothic sequence
    • Music suited the scenes
    • Could tell it was aimed at teenagers
    • The settings you would expect to see teenagers in, so it was conventional
    • Really liked the separate sequences for the characters
    • Good camera work
    • Thought the effects like the slow motion suited the characters and scenes
    Positive Feedback for my trailer...
  • 13. What have you learned from your audience feedback? “ i would of had quick paced shots but love it...it follows all the conventions (hope this helps !) xx” “ This is actually one of the best trailers I've ever seen :D lol to Katie's intro is legendary :D Ellie’s intro awwwww and sam’s intro with Chris walking by just made laugh :P very good trailer could be a hit :) xx” “ Good Trailer :) Love the seven nation army song in it, classic!!! Couple of small things Liam only talks to Ellie, and also why does the narration say the people's real name.” “ nice trailer, quality could do with a bit of an up (i.e. Dan's voice over sounds a bit roomy) post production stuff mainly, otherwise awesome. you also conveyed humour well, loving the bit with Chris and the “gothy kids” “ Great trailer :D Looks good, you can tell it's target audience is aimed at teenagers. The setting of the school and then the park shows the whole teenage life. Music tied in well with the scenes, you could tell what was going to happen by the type of music. Other than that small analysis i don't know what to write :s But it's a great trailer, entertaining and I'd probably watch it if it was an actual t.v show. Great job XD”
  • 14. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Evaluation of feedback The feedback I received from the questionnaires, focus groups and the various internet sites such as YouTube and Facebook, enabled me to reflect on my project and the scenes/effects that were seen as less realistic. Therefore, allowing me to improve my work and create the most professional piece of work possible. However, although I did receive some very good feedback, they were completed by very similar age groups and therefore doesn’t give me a diverse range of answers. As well as this, there was some problems with my questionnaire as the question “Would you buy this for a younger sibling” created some confusion as to how young I meant. Next time, I would therefore do a pilot questionnaire just to check that my questions are asking for the right thing, I would also ask a larger sample of people.
  • 15. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Audience feedback is essential for the success of a project, as it enables you to see mistakes you may not have noticed as well as to see how your target audience responds to your piece of media. This is very important as you would want to attract your target audience and feedback ensures you are following the conventions and attending to your audiences interests and expectations. For example; with my own trailer the majority of my target audience thought that the when the character Josh first appeared he didn’t seem confident enough. This audience feedback gave me time to re-shoot this particular scene and make it look more realistic and show Josh’s character more effectively.
