  1. 1. Using Delicious Overview: Delicious & Social Bookmarking Social bookmarking is a way to save, organise and share your favourite websites. It is an alternative to Internet Favorites or Bookmarks with the advantages that you can access them from any computer and share them with others. In addition social bookmarking uses “tags” rather than folders to organise your links more effectively. Delicious is an example of a social bookmarking tool. Getting started with delicious You need a Yahoo! account to use Delicious. For the workshop you can either use a CLT Training account, use an existing Yahoo! account if you have one, or create one now. A. Using an existing account: 1. Go to http://delicious.com/ & click on Sign In and then Sign In with your Yahoo! ID. Use your own Yahoo! username or the CLT Training one assigned to you. 2. After logging in go to: http://delicious.com/help/bookmarklets & then scroll down to Internet Explorer (Manual) 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the ‘Bookmark on Delicious’ and ‘My Delicious’ buttons to your Favorites Bar. • You can ignore the security warning (click Yes) • Make sure you choose the Favourites Bar folder when you ‘Add Favorite’ 4. Click the My Delicious button or to go to your homepage B. Creating a new account: 1. Go to http://delicious.com/ & click on the Join now link and complete the whole form. Click Continue 2. Choose your screenname. This is your delicious homepage web address, so choose carefully (http://delicious.com/screenname) 3. Choose Add Bookmarklets & then scroll down to Internet Explorer (Manual) 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the ‘Bookmark on Delicious’ and ‘My Delicious’ buttons to your Favorites Bar. • You can ignore the security warning (click Yes) • Make sure you choose the Favourites Bar folder when you ‘Add Favorite’ 5. Click the My Delicious button or to go to your homepage Saving Bookmarks There are two methods for saving a bookmark to delicious: A. Click on your Bookmark on Delicious button. 3. You will see: 4. Edit the TITLE (optional) 5. Add NOTES (optional) 6. Add TAGS • You can type tags or click on the suggested tags. Tags are separated by spaces (so cannot include spaces themselves) 7. Click Save. Your bookmark is saved and you are returned to the website you were viewing B. Using the save bookmark link on My Delicious 1. In Internet Explorer visit a website that you want to bookmark 2. Copy the URL 3. Go you to your delicious homepage http://delicious/screenname 4. Click the Save a new bookmark link: 5. Paste the URL and click save (go to 3 in section A above) Viewing Your Bookmarks Click the My Delicious button to go to your homepage or type your homepage URL: http://delicious.com/screenname If Time… • Look at another delicious user e.g. http://delicious.com/LSElibrary and use SAVE to add one of their bookmarks to your own bookmarks. • Add another delicious user to your Network 2 © LSE Centre for Learning Technology 05/07/2010
