IREX brought together representatives from various media organizations and associations throughout Serbia to address how the current economic crisis has affected Serbian media and how resulting problems can be solved.
Participants were given 100 Serbian Dinar (the equivalent of US$1.46) and asked how they would spend that amount to help support media. Sasa Mirkovic, president of the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM)
Increasing new media use and development was most important to the majority of participants, with funding to support outlets and journalists and media law reform a close second. Nino Brajovic, president of the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS); Dinko Gruhonjic, a president of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina (NDNV)
Working groups tackled the issues identified during the roundtable discussion to draft proposals for economically feasible activities to address the issues.
