14. 14. Q&A
15. 15. Who can use the SDK Beta ?
Anyone can use this SDK Beta for their personal programming interests. The Microsoft Kinect for Windows SDK Beta from Microsoft Research is created specifically for computer scientists, scientific researchers in academia, and technical enthusiasts who are interested in creatively exploring NUI possibilities with the Kinect sensor and related technologies.
16. 16. What are the license terms for the SDK Beta? Is the SDK Beta licensed like the Windows SDK?
What are the license terms for the SDK Beta? Is the SDK Beta licensed like the Windows SDK?
The SDK Beta is licensed under the terms of the license agreement for Microsoft Kinect for Windows SDK Beta from Microsoft Research. The SDK Beta is licensed for non-commercial use only. By installing, copying, or otherwise using the SDK Beta, you agree to be bound by the terms of its license. In all cases, the SDK Beta must be installed only on the developers, researchers, hobbyists, or students computer.
17. 17. The license for the SDK Beta is limited to non-commercial use. What kinds of non-commercial activities are allowed?
Scholarly research, including research funded by research grants from government agencies or non-profit institutions.
Classroom teaching (even if you are paid for that teaching) and investigative student projects.
Professional research and personal experimentation to understand the capabilities and possibilities for the Kinect device in the Windows environment, and for general exploration of natural user interface (NUI) concepts.
18. 18. Can I build my application to include the runtime included in the SDK Beta so that others can run my application on their PCs?
The "runtime" included as part of the SDK Beta is not a redistributable component. Under the SDK Beta license agreement, you cannot redistribute any of the components of the SDK Beta (other than certain source code samples provided with the SDK Beta, as provided in the license agreement). If someone would like to run your application on another PC, he must download and install the SDK Beta on that PC.
