Abram = Abraham
 Abram was born around 2000BC
    in (1) UR.
 The Sumerians worshipped
    many gods, known as (2)
    POLYTHEISM, but Abram
believed in just one, known as
    (3) MONOTHEISM.
 God came to him and said,
    “Leave your own country and
your father’s house, and go to a
country that I will show you.”
 God made a (4) COVENANT, or
    promise, with Abram to make
him a father of a great nation if
    he migrated to (5) CANAAN.
Canaan
 Around (6) 1950 BCE , Abram led friends
and relatives from Ur to the land of
  Canaan.
 God spoke to Abram when he was 99
years old and made a second (7)
COVENANT with Abram. God said he
would protect Abram’s people if they
  devoted themselves to God.
 As a symbol of this covenant God
  renamed Abram, “Abraham” which
  means (8) “FATHER OF MANY.”

Hebrews in Egypt
 After about 100 years there was a
  (9) FAMINE in Canaan and the
Hebrews had to move to (10)
  EGYPT (1800BC)
 The Hebrews lived well in Egypt for
hundreds of years until around (11)
  1600 BCE.
 The Egyptian (12) PHARAOH
  feared the Hebrews would become
too powerful and he decided to
  enslave the Hebrews.
 A man named Moses asked the
Pharaoh to free the Hebrews but
  he said, “NO!”
The Ten Plagues
 God punished the Egyptians with (13) 10
    PLAGUES.
 (14) LOCUSTS ate all the crops and the Nile
    River turned to (15) BLOOD.
 After each plague, Moses asked the Pharaoh
to free the Hebrews but he said, “No!”
 The last plague killed every (16) FIRST BORN
SON in Egypt including the Pharaoh’s.
 The Pharaoh decided to let the Hebrews go,
but he changed his mind and sent the
    Egyptian army after them!
Exodus
 Moses raised his staff and
parted the (17) RED SEA so
  the Hebrews could cross.
  The receding waters
  drowned the Egyptian army.
 This escape is called the
  (18) “EXODUS.”
 The Hebrews wandered the
  desert for (19) 40 YEARS
  before finally reaching
  Canaan once again.
 Moses died before making it
  back to Canaan.
Moses and the 10
Commandments
The Ten Commandments
 While they wandered the desert around the (20)
SINAI PENINSULA, Moses received the Ten
Commandments on (21) MOUNT SINAI, or
  “Mountain of God.”
 The Ten Commandments set out laws:
     (22) MONOTHEISM
 Keep the (23) SABBATH, worship on the seventh day
      of the week
 (24) MORALS: respect parents and no lying, stealing,
      murder
 They were written on a stone tablet that became
known as the (25) ARK OF THE COVENANT
Ticket Out:
 Explain the role of Abraham in the
    development of Judaism.
