  2. 2. Lucy – Oldest Hominid Lucy was the oldest (1) HOMINID ever discovered. Hominid – a prehistoric human (2) ANCESTOR She was discovered by Don Johanson in Ethiopia in (3) 1974. Lucy is 3.2 million years old.
  3. 3. Naming Lucy She was nicknamed Lucy due to the popularity of The Beatle’s song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” which was a hit in 1974. Lucy’s real name is Australopithecus afarensis. Australopithecus means (4) “SOUTHERN APE” and she was discovered in the Afar Triangle in Ethiopia.
