    • ADVANTAGES IN ASYNCHRONOUSLEARNING Typically self-paced (set your own schedule) Can be used with synchronous tools to provide more learning style adaption (video and chat feature for instructor to answer questions). More time spend discussing the content of the course. Students tend to stay on track.
    • ADVANTAGES IN SYNCHRONOUSLEARNING Real-time. More social interaction between instructors and learners. Convenience for all interested and capable for E- learning International diversity in creating teams plus collaborative learning Cultural open opportunities for career minded individuals seeking employers international Coffee shop log in wherever and whenever Increased student motivation; can get instructors attention immediately
    • DISADVANTAGES IN ASYNCHRONOUSLEARNING Relies primarily on technology to deliver instruction. Response time from instructor not immediate. Instructor not able to immediately see the level of engagement from each student making course correction hard for instructor.
    • DISADVANTAGES IN SYNCHRONOUSLEARNING Coordinating real time instruction with various time zones. Distance barriers plus not understanding students with language barriers. Self-discipline a student must be able to set time management in order to be sufficient in working the required expectations for the course. Computer illiterate an individual whom lacks the tools to utilize a computer. Technical issues having the knowledge to understand the issue at hand/Internet reliable Access to software or tool is unavailable such as non- smartphone capabilities or lack of app support. Expensive equipment required to participate fully.
    • DIFFERENCES IN ASYNCHRONOUSFACILITATION STRATEGIES Supports cognitive learning, critical thinking and written communication Collaboration is easier when the lesson is static. Learners can still participate at according to his or her schedule Student collaboration rather than instructor driven
    • DIFFERENCES IN SYNCHRONOUSFACILITATION STRATEGIES Instructors manage a live classroom where immediate feedback is required. Webinar Skype Individual/full forums-discussion organizing Instant messaging-back to back feedback Live chat both immediate communication Video conference actually viewing your audience Emails constant communication Whiteboards/Smart boards-creative minds, demonstrating and visually seeing your ideas come to light for that visual and on hands learner.
    • DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FACILITATORSAND LEARNERS (ASYNCHRONOUS) Responses to questions are not immediate; allowing time to process information and provide more thought out responses. Updates can be provided easily as current events influence the subject. Facilitators need to engage the student without seeing their face; students need to be self-motivated to complete readings and assignments.
    • DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FACILITATORSAND LEARNERS (SYNCHRONOUS) Facilitators are giving their undivided attention to the class. Students are part of a learning group Updates are real-time and affect the fluidity of discussion and collaboration Facilitator can course correct on the spot when students do not understand material. Students are able to participate in real-time with their classmates
