  • 7. Joining Bring your student ID card to the counter and you will be asked to sign a form. You can then be issued with books or videos. You will need to show your ID card for borrowing and change of password.
  • 8. <ul><li>Your student ID card is essential </li></ul><ul><li>with it you can:- </li></ul><ul><li>join the Learning Centre </li></ul><ul><li>borrow books, videos, journals etc. </li></ul><ul><li>access computers </li></ul><ul><li>borrow laptops with tutors signed consent </li></ul>

  • 10. <ul><li>You can borrow up to 6 ITEMS </li></ul>How long for? <ul><li>Books – Generally for 3 weeks </li></ul><ul><li>Videos and DVDs - 1 week </li></ul>Fines will be charged for overdue items
  • 11. Renewals Items can be renewed if they have not been reserved by someone else. You can renew in person, telephone or by e-mail [email_address] Always have your ID card with you when you are renewing items.

  • 13. <ul><li>Books, videos and journals are arranged in SUBJECT order </li></ul><ul><li>Each subject is assigned a number </li></ul><ul><li>This number is on the spine of the book and on the Library Catalogue (OPAC) record </li></ul><ul><li>Numbers run from 000 to 999 </li></ul>
  • 14. <ul><li>is the arrangement of subjects by number </li></ul><ul><li>A 3 digit number represents a broad subject e.g. SPORT is 796 </li></ul><ul><li>A subject can then be made more specific by </li></ul><ul><li>adding a decimal point and more numbers e.g. football - 796.334 badminton - 796.345 </li></ul>
  • 15. These booklets are available on a stand in the Learning Resource Centre. They contain details of journals, books and quick subject location and are available in the LRC as well as Internet sites and other useful information. Subject Bookmarks &amp; Guides
  • 16. <ul><li>Usage is for educational/course related use only </li></ul><ul><li>Access to web sites is constantly monitored </li></ul><ul><li>Email time restrictions apply for web based e-mails, such as Yahoo and Hotmail: </li></ul><ul><li>9.00am To 3.00pm </li></ul>Please maintain a quiet working environment

Please Note:   Monitoring software is in use on all Learning Centre computers!   All computer activity is monitored by staff from a centralised viewing area.   The computers are for course related use only. Please read the Internet/Computer User Policy on display in the Learning Centres. Computer usage

Internet and Computer Usage <ul><li>NO Pornography/ undesirable sites </li></ul><ul><li>Email only available at permitted time </li></ul><ul><li>NO games or downloading of video/music </li></ul><ul><li>Mobile phones and personal stereos/ mp3 players must be switched to silent </li></ul><ul><li>Please be QUIET while working in this area. </li></ul>Offenders will be asked to leave the LRC Any student who does not comply with these policies will be asked to leave
  • 19. Computers are networked to a laser printer in the LRC, and black/white &amp; colour photocopiers in the corridor. A label on the PC informs you which printer your PC is connected to. Use the normal print routine from the software package you are working in. Students are given a £3 credit for initial use and will then need to see LRC staff for topping up.   • 20. Saving your work <ul><li>Save your work regularly (approx every 10 mins). </li></ul><ul><li>You can buy a USB pen drive from the staff or bring your own (or CD) and staff can transfer work from / and to the network to take home or bring back in to College. </li></ul>
  • 21. <ul><li>Do not eat, drink while in the area </li></ul><ul><li>mobile phones to be kept on silent </li></ul><ul><li>Do not use the area as a social meeting place </li></ul><ul><li>Personal software and CD Roms are not to be used in the computers </li></ul><ul><li>PLEASE MAINTAIN A QUIET WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND BE CONSIDERATE TO OTHER USERS </li></ul>
  • 22. <ul><li>Please be aware that:- </li></ul><ul><li>A CCTV system operates in the Learning Resource Centre for the protection of our equipment and resources </li></ul><ul><li>All items are tagged and a security alarm system is in operation </li></ul><ul><li>Monitoring software is used on all computers </li></ul><ul><li>Internet filtering software is in use within the area </li></ul><ul><li>You are responsible for the safe keeping of your personal belongings </li></ul>

Monday: 9.00am to 5.00pm Tuesday: 9.00am to 7.30pm Wednesday: 9.00am to 7.30pm Thursday: 9.00am to 7.30pm Friday: 9.00am to 4.30pm These times may differ and are subject to alteration during holiday periods, please see door signs for changes and details of evening opening.   • 24. if you need help with using the Centre. Remember that’s what we are here for! Please ask ! The Learning Resource Centre has a huge amount of resources that will be extremely valuable to you, the staff will help you get the most out of them.
  • 25. Please remember It may seem that there are many rules to follow but most of them are in place to ensure that the Learning Resource Centre is a pleasant and safe place to study. Please remember the less time we spend reminding you of the rules – the more time we will have to help you!! <ul><li>If a member of staff asks you to leave the centre </li></ul><ul><li>due to misconduct – PLEASE LEAVE. </li></ul><ul><li>If you are asked to provide your </li></ul><ul><li>ID details – PLEASE PROVIDE THEM. </li></ul>
