2. Before making our magazine, we will need to decide who the publisher of our
magazine will be as they play a key role in the distribution of the magazine and
what audience it goes out too. There are many publishers for magazines that
also help distribute other things such as radio broadcasts. The publisher is
important as this decides who you it goes out too and how many people will
see the magazine. In order for the magazine to be successful the publisher will
have to be already and big and well known and also very experienced in this
type of magazine, for example already have a film magazine that is slightly
different so they can help this one like they helped already successful film
magazines. The publisher needs to be experienced as otherwise people may not
be inclined to buy the magazine if it is not in a main stream shop or if they don’t
recognise it but if a well known publisher advertises it before had people will be
more likely to buy it.

7. Choice of publisher for our film magazine
‘SCREENING’
For our film magazine called ‘Screening’ we have come to the decision that if our
magazine was to be published we would use the publishing company Bauer. We
chose Bauer as they already own Empire magazine, and although this may be
competition for our magazine, they already have the audience for that and so that
audience could transfer over to our magazine, and like both magazines. The
audiences between the two magazines will be slightly different as our magazine is
mainly about thriller and mystery films rather than all film genres, so if there is
people who just like this genre of film then they can get this magazine instead of
Empire. This shows that the two magazines would not cross over that much. We
chose not to use Emap or IPC as they do not already have any film magazines at
the moment, and although this would be good in terms of getting a large
audience it may not be as they may not be able to draw the audience in and have
all the techniques that Bauer does.
