    • A professional that:
    • Directs high school students and adult learners to identify careers
    • Finds jobs for students and others and helps to keep those jobs
    • Conducts assessments
    • Develops written plans of action
    • Identifies resources in the community quickly
    • Administers interest inventories
    • Develops résumés and conducts mock interviews
    • Maintains accurate records
    • Promotes the services of the school district or organization

  • 4. National Career Development Assoc.
    • Established in 1913, the National Career Development Association (NCDA) is one the premier providers of professional development in the career field. With a nationwide system of instructors, NCDA has prepared over 18,000 CDFs for this internationally-recognized certification.
    • NCDA is a founding division of the American Counseling Association.
    • The mission of NCDA is to promote the career development of all people over the life span.

  • 5. The Global CDF Credential
    • Oakland University developed the CDF competencies and a CDF instructor training curriculum.
    • Various groups worked with Center for Credentialing and Education and the National Board of Certified Counselors to develop requirements for the GCDF credential.
    • 1996, the GCDF credential was developed to provide standards, training specs and credentialing for career practitioners (both counselors/non counseling professionals).

  • 6. The Global CDF Credential
    • In 2006, NCDA begin offering the CDF curriculum as a blended online course.
    • Global CDF certification is provided through the Center for Credentialing and Education, Inc., a subsidiary of the National Board for Certified Counselors.
    • Certification is limited to those participants who attend training from a certified instructor; certification is for 5 years with recertification requirements of 75 hours of continuing education to be completed.
    • Successful completion of CDF training requires mastering 12 core competencies

    • Helping Skills – Be proficient in the basic career facilitating process
    • Labor Market Information and Resources – Understand labor market and occupational information and trends; use current resources
    • Assessment – Comprehend and use (under supervision) both formal and informational career development assessments with emphasis on relating appropriate ones to the population served
    • Working with Diverse Populations – Recognize special needs of various groups and adapting services to meet their needs
    • Ethical and Legal Issues – Follow the CDF code of ethics and know current legislative regulations
    • Career Development Theories and Models – Understand career development theories, models, and techniques as they apply to lifelong development, gender, age, and ethnic background

    • Uses an approved curriculum and delivery of instruction only through CCE-approved instructors (NCDA is an official provider of CDF training - LDW Group is an official NCDA instructor)
    • Standardization of skills in the field of career development
    • The CDF training course meets ODE mandate for Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
    • 120 contact hours = 12 CEUs = 4 sem creds

  • 14. School/Colleges/Vocational Programs Better Prepared Consumers (Students) National Certified Counselors Global CDFs
  • 15. South Carolina Department of Education - (As Issued in June 2006 – Inez M. Tenenbaum, State Superintendent of Education) Both the school-based middle and high school career specialists and the regionally based career specialists who provide career services to school districts must hold a bachelor’s degree and the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certification from the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE).
