A Microbe is a small organism (Micro-organism) there are 4 types of basic microbe. Some of these are regarded as non-living things, but in fact they are. Protozoa Virus Bacteria Fungi Not all microbes are dangerous; we use microbes for our own benefit. Microbes are found in Yogurt, Bread, Beer, Medicines and wines. Sizes A Bacterium is 1/100th of a mm large. Some bacteria are harmless. 3 Vital things you MUST know about bacteria Spread and grow very quickly Killed or affected by anti-biotics. Food poisoning, tetanus and sore throats are cases of bacteria. A Virus is 1/1000, 000th big. 4 Vital things you MUST know about Viruses Genetic information are kept inside a coat Not affected by anti-biotics Release poisons and harmful substances Colds, flu, polio and chicken pox are cases of Viruses. Respiration Some microbes carry out anaerobic respiration. This means that they do not need oxygen to carry out their respiration. In Beer, Cider and wine making, yeast cells carry out anaerobic respiration. Aerobic Respiration is the opposite of Anarobic.
