Everyday operations <ul><li>You may check out as many as 5 books for a two week period as long as you have no overdues. </li></ul><ul><li>Lost books or materials must be paid for or replaced. </li></ul><ul><li>Your library number check-out number remains the same. (Also you login ID) </li></ul><ul><li>Copies are 10 cents apiece (cash only) </li></ul>
  3. 3. Computers <ul><li>Use of computers is for educational purposes only. </li></ul><ul><li>Only print what you need (1 to 2 pages maximum) to Blume. Infractions for greater printing. </li></ul><ul><li>Logoff when finished working. Infractions will be given for failure to logoff. </li></ul><ul><li>Save all work to your folder on the P drive (no hard drive storage). </li></ul><ul><li>A flash drive is useful for transporting work home. </li></ul><ul><li>Search for only what is necessary in the catalog (no personal names or inappropriate words, please) </li></ul><ul><li>You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. </li></ul>

Take note in the AUP! <ul><li>Violations of the law to include: “The personal use of any photograph or printed material that references the name or logo of St. Mary Magdalen Parish or School or any of its faculty, staff, or students is strictly prohibited regardless of the location or origin of the posting.” </li></ul><ul><li>Non-Educational Use to include: “. . . The viewing of personal websites, journaling sites, personal e-mail, gaming and shopping sites.” </li></ul>

AUP Scope broad <ul><li>Covers not only all units at school, but “all information created and/or saved on said units, as well as all information referencing St. Mary Magdalen, its faculty, staff, or students, posted on the internet, regardless of the location or origin of the original posting.” </li></ul>
  6. 6. What are the consequences? <ul><li>Failure to sign prohibits you from using the Internet. </li></ul><ul><li>Violations of the AUP will result in a suspension of privileges, disciplinary action (5 to 10 points), and possible legal action. </li></ul>
  7. 7. What will our class be like? <ul><li>We will concentrate on projects to improve your writing and research skills, with heavy emphasis on tech tools. The wiki will be integral part of class. </li></ul><ul><li>Projects are often done jointly with social studies and computer classes. </li></ul><ul><li>First projects: Readers Response on summer reading, Plagiarism </li></ul>

Middle School Wiki (http://www.bottspot.wikispaces.com) <ul><li>This is YOUR library webpage. </li></ul><ul><li>You must be a member of the Middle School Wiki </li></ul><ul><li>All assignments and their guidelines will be posted there </li></ul><ul><li>Many assignments will be posted there by you </li></ul><ul><li>For communication with class and Mrs. Bott </li></ul>

  10. 12. Grading <ul><li>All work assigned by Mrs. Bott will be graded by Mrs. Bott and be part of you Library grade, as well as parts of others’ assignments graded by Mrs. Bott. (A,B,C Scale) </li></ul><ul><li>This is an academic subject, where grades count toward NJHS. </li></ul><ul><li>Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated. </li></ul><ul><li>Online assignments: Respect and ethics </li></ul><ul><li>Late work loses 5 points for every date late it is turned in. After 5 days, it is not accepted. Longer assignments are due on the due date without exception. </li></ul>

Anything else? <ul><li>All new books are displayed on top of the shelves. </li></ul><ul><li>Login as your own number ID with password “student Login Number” (Example: 123, student123) and set your password. </li></ul><ul><li>WorldBook Online continues, and is at home </li></ul><ul><li>Turnitin.com </li></ul>
