You have 30 days from the date your parking ticket is issued to plead not guilty

After 30 days, significant penalties are imposed by the court in addition to your fine

After 100 days, a judgment can be entered against you. Your car can be impounded. You cannot renew your motor vehicle registration

How to beat 3 NYC parking tickets

Standing, stopping or parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

Fire hydrant

You win, if you stop, stand or park more than 15 feet away from the fire hydrant

You win, if the operator remains behind the wheel and is ready to move the vehicle if requested to do so

No double parking

Double parking

You win, if you were stopped while discharging your passengers

You win, if you were a commercial vehicle, while expeditiously making pickups, deliveries or service calls, provide that:

There is no unoccupied parking space or designated loading zone on either side of the street within 100 feet

Good evening.
Believe me, there are no dumb questions when it comes to NYC parking tickets...Just dumb answers. Once a parking ticket lapses into judgment after 100 days, you are no longer offered a reduced fine.

NYC is much more aggressive in trying to collect unpaid fines and penalties. They are referring more and more tickets to collection agencies. Your debt to NYC is unpaid, and your license/registration will not be renewed.

There is a 3-step fine assessment schedule. 31 days ($10), 45 days ($20), and after 75 days, an additional $30 is added to your base fine. It's almost as expensive as buying a hot dog and a beer at a Yankee game.

berlinil A judgement has been made against me. I have three unpaid parking tickets in Brooklyn. The original fines were 45.00, 45.00 and 95.00 but with penalties i now owe 360.00. This may be a dumb question but will they reduce the fines at all? And secondly if a collection agency takes over does that mean my debt to the state is cleared, and now the responsibility of the collection agency? I have a FL license and no longer own the vehicle if that makes any difference. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have. Thanks, Dan 8 months ago

Good evening.
Generally the reason you get 2 different results on the same charge is because 2 different judges decided your cases. I would definitely appeal the rogue judge's ruling. You may wish to respectfully point out that according to the rules, a judge does not have discretion when the month and year are clearly displayed on the plates (judge has discretion on body type, not expiration date). Also point out you State mandates posting of the decals on the plate.

You have 30 days to appeal from the date of the judge's decision. Not the date you received your letter.
