Web Dev. Information Interview

  1. 1. Web Design Interview Christina Nobleof Noble Image Inc.
  2. 2. What is your job title? I am a Senior Designer
  3. 3. What are your responsibilities and job requirements for this position? I work as a designer creating web layouts and graphics as well as logos and print materials. I also work as a front-end developer, utilizing CSS, HTML, PHP, and JavaScript to build websites.
  4. 4. DefinitionsHTML: A set of tags or rules that are used todisplay text , links, sound and images in webpages.
  5. 5. DefinitionsCSS: Instructions to change the look of webpage colors, backgrounds, margins, etc.
  6. 6. DefinitionsJavaScript: Runs in a web browser tocreate dynamic content like message boxespopping up or a live clock.PHP: Helps make webpages moreinteractive and personalized, by allowingthem to do more things. A websiteprogrammed with PHP can have pages thatare password protected, whereas a websitewith no programming can not do this.Facebook profiles are made with PHP.
  7. 7. Howd you decide to get into this field and what steps did you take to enter it? Ive had a passion for design and code from anearly age. I believe that packaging and branding are among the most important assets any company can have, so Ive made it my mission to challenge myself to continually create unique, professional, impactful, functional, reliable, and dynamic websites for clients from all fields and professions. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Davis, and in addition Ive worked as a designer and "code monkey" [programmer] in various jobs, both professional and academic.
  8. 8. Could you outline current issues and trends associated with this industry?Another trend thats gaining momentum is responsive design,or CSS that responds to the size of a users device to displayvarious content and styling. This negates the need forseparate stylesheets or even separate domains to displaycontent in an appropriate manner for a given device.
  9. 9. Could you outline current issues and trends associated with this industry?Social media is changing the way designers and developersthink about the web. Google is taking social mediaconsiderations more seriously when it comes to rankingwebsites in the major search engines, so suggesting a socialmedia presence to our clients and including social media iconsand RSS feeds on their websites is very important.
  10. 10. What advice would you give someone looking to enter this industry/role?I think the most important thing is justgaining perspective and experience. Readdesign and web blogs and magazines, findrelevant internships, and keep an open andresourceful mind. Degrees can certainly beimportant, but I think cultivating a truepassion for usable design is what makes thedifference for a successful web designer.
