    2. Sources of Injury ( pet and wild animals ) 1. Animals with sharp pointed teeth can tear the flesh and cause much bleeding
    3. 2. Animals with sharp claws can scratch and tear a person’s skin.
      • 3. Animals with sharp horns can pierce a person’s body.
      • 4. Animals with strong legs can kick hard and break a bone.
    4. Carriers of Diseases 1. Mosquitoes- Dengue and Malaria
    5. 2. Flies- typhoid and other intestinal infection.
      • 3. Pigs/swine- worms
      • intestine will be infected by worms
      • 4. Dogs, cats carry parasites-cause scabies a contagious skin disease.
    6. Dogs and Cats are carriers of virus called rabies.
      • 5. Rats-leptospirosis found in the urine of rats. It may enter through skin cuts.
    7. First Aid for Insect Stings and Animal Bites
      • For Insect Sting
      • 1. Do not Scratch the skin.
      • 2. Seek the help of an older person to remove the stinger. Use tweezers or sterilized needle to drag the stinger out.
    8. 3. To relieve the pain, apply sodium bicarbonate solution or a few drops of calamine lotion. 4. To lessen swelling, apply cold compress.
    9. For Tick Bite
      • 1. Immediately remove the tick.
      • 2. Wash the skin area with soap and water.
      • 3. Apply antiseptic to prevent infection.
    10. For Dog Bite
      • 1. Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water. Bring the patient to the doctor.
      • 2. Ask the owner of the dog if it was vaccinated recently.
      • 3. The doctor will give the patient antirabies.
    11. For Snake Bite
      • 1. Keep the victim calm. Make him lie down comfortably and stay motionless. It will prevent the from spreading fast to the rest of the body.
      • 2. Apply sterile dressing on the wound, and bandage it.
      • 3. Bring the victim right away to a doctor who may give an immune serum, or antivenin treatment.
    12. Conserving Animals
      • 1. When there is an opportunity, join tree planting projects in your community.
      • 2. Let us not disturb animals in their habitats.
      • 3. Avoid hunting endangered animals.
      • 4. Report to authorities people who catch endangered animals.
    13. Assignment: Science
      • Be ready for a quiz tom about the animal’s body movement, body covering, parts used for sensing, food eaten, parts used for getting food.
