  2. 5. <ul><li>Many traditional diseases that today doesn´t have a cure yet. </li></ul><ul><li>Possible new techniques like gene therapy becomes in a hope to </li></ul><ul><li>reduced symmptoms </li></ul><ul><li>diseases. </li></ul>
  3. 6. <ul><li>Scientists at Royal Holloway University of London, had reported new results base in gene-therapy that consist in an exon skipping, related with Duchenne Muscular Distrophy (DMD). </li></ul>
  4. 7. <ul><li>DMD is characterized by </li></ul><ul><li>a progressive muscle </li></ul><ul><li>weakness that is caused </li></ul><ul><li>by the missing of the </li></ul><ul><li>distrofin protein. </li></ul>
  5. 8. <ul><li>This treatment involves short strand of synthetic DNA (antisense oligonucleotide) that can restore production of the protein dystrophin . </li></ul><ul><li>Because of that this study provides further evidence </li></ul><ul><li>that could trasform the </li></ul><ul><li>symptoms into a less </li></ul><ul><li>severety form. </li></ul>
  6. 9. Knowing the complications in young boys with DMD, the opportunity to use gene-therapy in order to find a posible treatment to reduced complications in those patients is an excellent alternative.
  7. 11. <ul><li>Scientists of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, found that in some cancers chromosomes can suffer structural changes. </li></ul>
  8. 12. <ul><li>In this crisis chromosomes </li></ul><ul><li>basically explode and DNA </li></ul><ul><li>repair machinery tries to </li></ul><ul><li>stick chromosomes back </li></ul><ul><li>together… </li></ul>
  9. 13. <ul><li>But it fails, in consequence </li></ul><ul><li>occurs hundreds of genomic </li></ul><ul><li>mutations that is a considerable </li></ul><ul><li>road to cancer. </li></ul>
  10. 14. <ul><li>This report is very interesting as long as the knowledge of structural changes in chromosomes allows to identificated some causes of chromosomes mutations. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  11. 16. <ul><li>Technology allows to improve procedures that in medicine are related with the treatment of cancer and DMD. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  12. 17. <ul><li>  </li></ul>Exon skipping gene therapy allows muscular dystrophy patients have great promise as a long term treatment.
  13. 18. <ul><li>As long as medical researches can know more aspects related to chromosomes crisis more alternatives will be available to focus on one specific therapy. </li></ul>
