The popularity of this diet caused a banana shortage in Japan.

  • 4. Twinkie Diet Twinkies (photo credit: Photog Bill from Flickr via Photopin) The Twinkie Diet requires you to eat nothing but Twinkies. Nutrition professor at Kansas State University, Mark Haub, lost 27 pounds in two months on this diet.
  • 5. Grapefruit Diet Grapefruit (photo credit: Duncan Hull from Flickr via Photopin) The Grapefruit Diet has been around since the 1930s. Each meal on this diet includes 8 ounces of grapefruit. Weight loss from this diet is mostly fluids rather than fats.
