  3. 3. How It All Began <ul><li>Jane has loved animals every since she was a youngling. It all began with a stuff monkey she received as a gift at the age of 2. </li></ul><ul><li>She still has it to this day. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Getting to Kenya <ul><li>Jane’s friend invited her to travel to Kenya with her. It had always been a dream of hers to go Africa. This was her chance and she was not going to miss it. </li></ul><ul><li>She saved all her money to go by waitressing </li></ul>
  5. 5. Her Discovery <ul><li>In October 1960 while Jane was observing 2 chimpanzees, who are now known as David Graybeard and Goliath, they took the leaves off of twigs and used to go get food. They made a tool. </li></ul><ul><li>Humans thought that they were the only species to use and make tools. </li></ul><ul><li>Dr. Louis Leakey said after her discovery, “&quot;Now we must redefine tool, redefine man, or accept chimpanzees as humans.&quot; </li></ul>
