      • Administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission
      • Provides discounts to assist most school and libraries in the U.S. to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access
    • What does it exactly fund?
      • Funding can be requested for:
        • Telecommunications services
        • Internet access
        • Internal Connections
        • Basic maintenance of internal connections
    • How much of a discount?
      • 20% to 90% of the costs of eligible services
        • Depends on the level of poverty and the urban/rural status of the population served
        • Applicants must provide additional resources- computers, telephones, software, and any other equipment needed to utilize connectivity

        • Technology Needs:
          • Replace teachers aging laptops
          • Smart boards and CPS systems
          • Handheld Brainchild student devices
          • Replacement projector bulbs (very expensive)

      • The STaR chart is a tool used for technology planning, budgeting for resources, and evaluation of local technology projects.
