  • 3. CARDIOTONICS  Action: Increase force of ventricular contraction  Slow the heart rate   Use: Heart failure  Atrial fibrillation   Side effects:       Anorexia n/v/d Headache Yellow, halo vision Confusion arrythmias
  • 4. CARDIOTONICS  Preacautions: Hypokalemia  Heart block   Often on lasix and potassium as well
  • 5. CARDIOTONICS Nursing process Imbalanced nutrition  Assessment         Take v/s, a/r rate Hold if <60 or >100 Check for edema Monitor weight When 1st started on dig—digitalization….. Monitor v/s carefully Toxicity can occur anytime, even whe normal doses are administered, or on maintenance doses See table d39.2, p 367
