• Equivalent Fractions By the end of this lesson, you will be able to: Define “equivalent fractions,” Identify and create different fractions that represent the same amount
• Mmmm Pie Fractions… 1/2 2/4 4/8 What do you notice about these fractions? What is 1x2? 2x2? 1x4? 2x4?

• Equivalent fractions: the same amount represented by different fractions.
Find an equivalent fraction for 1/3, 1/5, 3/12, and 3/4 using a candy bar fraction.
• Fraction Strips
• These fraction strips show us how to find equivalent fractions.
• We also use them to REDUCE a fraction (write it with the smallest numbers possible).
• Try to reduce 3/9 using your fraction strips.
