    2. Latinitas FAQ
        • What: Latinitas started as a service learning project at the University of Texas at Austin in a Latinos in Media class by Dr. Federico Subervi. Since then, Latinitas has grown into a 501c3 nonprofit.
        • Where: Headquarters - Austin & El Paso, TX
        • When: Launched in 2002
        • Who: Founders - Laura Donnelly & Alicia Rascon
        • Why: To Empower Latina Youth
    3. Why Latinitas??
        • Lack of a Magazine for Hispanic girls
        • Lack of Online Content for Hispanic girls
        • Lack of Latinos in the Media
          • Latinos are consistently underrepresented or stereotyped in media.
        • Lack of Latinos Behind the Scenes
          • Hispanics make up only 2% of Newsroom staff across the country.
    4. Why Hispanic Girls?
      • There is a particular urgency regarding Latina girls.
          • Highest risk for a susceptibility to teen pregnancy, drug abuse, health issues such as obesity & a drop in grades.
          • This is of special concern because Hispanics represent the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population.
          • There is a lack of bilingual and bicultural programs that serve this population.

        • Latinitas...need content that meets their needs, interests & speaks their language.
        • want to learn about their culture and history.
        • should be exposed to Latina role models.
        • need to hear the message that they are important and that they can succeed.
