But…Do you know the origins of Halloween? What is your vision about Halloween? Some people view Halloween as a time for fun, putting on costumes, trick-or- treating, and having theme parties.Others view it as a time of superstitions, ghosts and evil spirits that should be avoided at all costs. 2
  • Halloween culture can be traced backto the Celtic culture in Ireland, Britainand Northern Europe. Roots lay in thefeast of Samhain, which was annuallyon October 31st to honor the dead.Samhain signifies "summers end" orNovember. Samhain was a harvestfestival with huge sacredbonfires, marking the end of the Celticyear and beginning of a new one. TheCelts believed the souls of the deadroamed the streets and villages atnight. Since not all spirits were thoughtto be friendly, gifts and treats were leftout to pacify the evil and ensure nextyears crops would be plentiful. Thiscustom evolved into trick-or-treating.3
