Marketing Value of Social Bookmarking <ul><li>Major impact on generating site traffic </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to spread with like minded individuals </li></ul><ul><li>Using folksonomy refines the corporate taxonomy </li></ul><ul><li>Increase link popularity which also helps organic search optimization </li></ul><ul><li>If you can get enough traction to be featured on a Social Bookmarking site, your visibility goes up exponentially </li></ul>

Recommended Best Practices: What to Do & What NOT to Do <ul><li>What to do: </li></ul><ul><li>Encouraging social bookmarking by adding links to make it easy for users – consider asking email subscribers to bookmark your site too </li></ul><ul><li>Consider developing a custom tool that matches the corporate website look and feel and that leverages multiple bookmarking sites </li></ul><ul><li>Consider what pages of the website make sense to use social bookmarking on (ie. news, events, tools, resources) </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure your approach is sustainable and avoid dramatic fluctuations in ranking algorithms </li></ul><ul><li>What NOT to do: </li></ul><ul><li>Don't submit content just to get traffic without taking into account whether the content would interest the community. </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t make multiple accounts to artificially promote your content. </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t use software programs to automate the process and spamming as many social sites as you can. </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t pay someone else to do these thins either </li></ul>
