  • You can’t fake this! In your job, you occupy a “box.” Networking—connecting with others—is based on a lot of the stuff that doesn’t fit in the box. That’s the personal stuff—pick something and bring it out. A hobby, an interest, a self-deprecating, humorous acknowledgement of your discomfort… it doesn’t matter! Always start the conversation: extroverts won’t care and introverts will thank you.

Turn off the stereo and the TV. Close the door. •Unless youre sure your cell phone service is going to be perfect, consider using a landline rather than your cell phone to avoid a dropped call or static on the line.
