  • 2. Levees• A levee is a naturally occurring ridge at the banks of a river.• It is like a raised river bank above the level of the floodplain.
  • 3. Formation of a levee • When a flood occurs, the river bursts its banks. • The flood leaves behind sediment (thickest at channel edges, thin and fine on the outer part of the floodplain outside the channel) • This sediment raises the level of the banks above the floodplain. • If more flooding occurs then the levees keep getting higher. {http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_is_a_levee_formed}
