  2. 2. SKIMMING AND SCANNING• SKIMMING: IS TO READ QUICKLY THROUGH A TEXT IN ORDER TO GET AN OVERALL VIEW /IDEA OF WHAT IS ABOUT. (READING FOR GIST)• SCANNING: IS TO READ A TEXT TO GET SPECIFIC INFORMATION.
  3. 3. THINK OF POSSIBLE SITUATIONSWHERE YOU WOULD USE ONESTRATEGY OR ANOTHER ONE. DIFFERENT WAYS OF RESPONDING TO A TEXT:

KEY TERMS• To grasp the meaning of. • Implicit• To make the meaning clear. • Evaluate• A meaning that is meant but not clearly • Understand expressed or stated.• To choose; to pick out.• To arrange in order; to put together. • Explain • Collate• To examine carefully; to determine why something has happened. • Analyse• To consider value or worth.• The effect on the reader created by an author´s words. • Writer´s effect • Select
  5. 5. Short answer questions• They are a test of reading only.• Read and analyse the question before reading the passage.• Highlight or underline possible answers as you read the passage.• Use deduction to work out the meaning of any key words but DON’T WORRY if you don´t understand every word.
  6. 6. FACT VS OPINION• DEFINE EACH OF THESE TERMS.• WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO DISTINGUISH THEM WHEN READING A TEXT?
