People - First, to Work like a Network you need to focus on your People. People are the core of your organization and form the basis of your Network. If you can motivate and engage your People, you’ll be able to unlock their experiences, skills, and passion and apply them to the goals at hand.

Groups - Now, People organize themselves in Groups to get work done. By enabling individuals to come together and apply their efforts towards a common purpose, Groups multiply the impact of individual people. Enabling Groups is central to Working like a Network, whether these Groups are traditional teams defined by org charts or self-organized, ad hoc teams that collaborate across your org on projects, initiatives or ideas.

Network - All the People and Groups in your organization form your Network, and all of their work and interactions accrue to the value of the Network. If you can capture and analyze their activities and content in your Network, it’s possible to derive highly relevant personalized insights in a way that’s never been possible due to existing information and org silos.
By leveraging this knowledge, your People and Groups can better connect the dots and achieve the full potential of Working like a Network.
Next, let’s discuss key investments we are making in People, Groups and Network to deliver on the vision.
Let’s talk now about our investments in Groups. As we mentioned earlier, we want to help People to easily organize themselves in groups. If you think about group collaboration, the hardest thing to do is keep track of all the moving pieces and plug into the thinking and work of others.
We want to solve for this by unifying people, conversations and content across all Office 365 applications by providing a common set of assets in order to accelerate and scale collaboration.
Here’s what a Group looks like:
[click]
First we can see the Product Launch Yammer group, which includes conversations and members.
[click]
Secondly you can now see the same Product Launch group in Outlook Web App (OWA) with the exact same conversation from the corresponding Yammer group shown earlier. The same group members can now participate in the same conversations from either Yammer or OWA.
This is a great on-ramp to social for people that prefer to work in e-mail. They now have the ability to participate in social conversations directly from Outlook, and avoid missing out on conversations previously happening only on Yammer.
All members will access the same conversations and content, regardless of where they work. Changes made in one application will carry through to the others.
[click]
A Group Calendar is automatically created for the Product Launch project. The Group calendar schedule can be viewed side by side with your work calendar as well as alongside other Group calendars, facilitating scheduling and milestone updates to team members.
[click]
The last building block of Groups is a SharePoint document library to store all Product Launch documents powered by OneDrive for Business.
The Product Launch group contains the same members across Yammer, SharePoint and Exchange; adding and removing members across the services will be automatically managed.
Just like in Yammer, Groups are open by default to enhance discoverability and sharing. But they can be made private as necessary to ensure you have the privacy and access control you need.
When on, enables a activity gatherer (timer job) that consolidates activities for followed people
For OOB profile data consolidated information is written in the Microfeed list
For custom 2010 gatherers the information is still written in the SocialDB / ConsolidatedFeeds Table
Requires “Enable SharePoint 2010 Activity Migration” checkbox to be enabled
potentially impacts performances because it forces Newsfeed WP to query SocialDB / ConsolidatedFeeds Table EVERY REFRESH
