    1. 2009 PTA Community Outreach Shoeless Sunday Event June 9, 2008 San Antonio, Texas

A single day is enough to make us a little larger. -Paul Klee Over 400 pairs of new youth tennis shoes and 500 pairs of new socks were donated and distributed for this years PTA Community Outreach “Shoeless Sunday” Effort in San Antonio, Texas. Because of the tremendous support for this years event, two different shelters in San Antonio ; The Children’s Shelter and the San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries Family Transitional Living and Learning Center, each received over 200 pairs of new youth tennis shoes and 250 pairs of socks.
    4. San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries Family Transitional Living and Learning Center
    5. SAM Ministries - Transitional Living and Learning Center The TLLC is a residential facility for up to 40 homeless families with minor children who show a commitment to gaining self- sufficiency. The individual needs of all family members are supported, promoting the viability of the family as a whole. In Fiscal Year 2007, the TLLC housed and served a total of 272 unduplicated family residents, of which 101 were adults and 171 were children. http://www.samm.org/ http://www.samm.org/ourministriesSli

Due to confidentiality and respecting the privacy of the families of the San Antonio Transitional Family Living and Learning Center, pictures taken of the children during our visit are still being reviewed so that proper identification of each child is made and to find their photo release on file . We are hopeful to have something to you soon.
    12. The Children’s Shelter
    13. The Children's Shelter The Children's Shelter is the oldest and largest emergency shelter for children in the State of Texas. The Children’s Shelter specializes in care to infants and young children, serving newborn up to the age of twelve years. The shelter has the capacity to care for up to 52 children at one time (9 cribs and 43 beds for children.) Child Protection Services (CPS) and San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) bring children to the Shelter. The majority of the children have been removed from their homes due to abuse, abandonment, and/or neglect. http://www.chshel.org/

    31. A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone , especially the Physical Therapist Assistant Programs and students who participated through campus and program shoe collection drives . It wouldn’t have been such a success without your involvement. And when those young boys and girls at The Children's Shelter and the Transitional Living and Learning Center put on their new shoes and socks each day, they too will THANK YOU!! A special heartfelt thank you to Bev Rodriguez, PTA (NC), SuAnn Poole, PTA (MS), Bob Hayden, PTA (UT), and my daughter Alexis who helped in the delivering and assisting the children in putting on their new socks and shoes.
