Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26th in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and other Commonwealth countries. It originated in the United Kingdom and traditionally was the day after Christmas that employers would give gifts of money and leftovers from Christmas dinner to their employees, tradespeople and servants. Now Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday and an opportunity for stores to hold sales to clear out their post-Christmas inventory.
