  • 1. Did you know?
  • 2. That
    • Thousands of our orangutan friends are being poached and kept as illegal pets. On the island of Borneo and the Country of Sumatra?
  • 3. Now
    • What could make this growing problem worse?
  • 4. Palm Oil Companies
    • Keep cutting down the rainforest and replacing the trees with palm trees. About 20,000 square miles of the forest were cut down in 1982-1984.
  • 5. Consider this…
    • In 1993 the population of orangutans in Sumatra was 12,000, now there are only about 6,500 in Sumatra.
  • 6. BUT!!!!
    • Conservancy funds are trying to stop this.
  • 7. Now
    • Aren’t you glad that there are people striving for a solution?
  • 8. Yeah,
    • So are we.
  • 9.
    • YOU
  • 10.
    • CAN
  • 11.
    • HELP
  • 12.
    • TOO
  • 13. Here’s
    • How
  • 14. Solution
    • Do not buy paper or wood products. This will give less need to cut down the rainforest for paper or wood.
  • 15. Solution II
    • You can donate money to a conservancy fund in Borneo or Sumatra or online at websites such as www.Redapes.org .
  • 16. Solution III
    • Also people can try to limit the amount palm products that they buy.
  • 17.
    • If Everyone Did This
  • 18.
    • The Rainforest and the World will both be a better place.
  • 19.
    • And Orangutans will have freedom and happiness.
