Charles Darwin
      By Kosuke
      Sakanashi
Who is Charles Darwin?
 Naturalist
 Born in England on 12 February 1809

 “On the Origin of Species”

 His discoveries gave tremendous

  effect on evolutionism.
Natural Selection
 Natural population size tend to remain stable over time
    with constant resources.
 Individuals within a population vary from one another
in many ways. For example, their ability to withstand
environmental changes, compete for resources and
    escape from predators.
 Some traits which allow individuals to survive will be
    inherited from parents to offspring.
 Those variation of traits will lead to reproduce more
    successful and adopted population.
Beagle Voyage and new discovery

                In September 1835, Darwin
                arrived in the Galapagos
                Island.
The evolution of Iguana

 However, their foods
                       OMG what should I eat?
 suddenly run out.
 Their peaceful life came to
 end.
In the Galapagos Island,
Green Iguanas used to
live on the ground
while eating cactus or
some other plants.
He found seaweed in the sea.
He practiced swimming over and over.

    Years have gone by
Marine Iguana

• Male: up to 1.7 meters (5.6ft) long
• Female: 0.6-1.0 meter(2.0-3.3ft) long
• Weight: 1.5 kilograms (3.3lb)
• Habitat: Galapagos Island
• Diet: Algae. Marine Iguana is a
  herbivore as a Green Iguana
• Distinct Features: Developed tail,
dorsal fins and limbs for swimming
How can Marine Iguana swim?

Sharp claw allow MarineFlattened tail decreases the it to
                             Spiky dorsal fins allow
Iguana to hold onto rocks. water resistance. faster.
                              swim further and
Assumption of evolutionism based on
Charles Darwin’s theory.

Human may develop to
have chloroplast to make
energy by photosynthesis .

Editor's Notes

  1. He is a scientist, especially a naturalist. He was born in England on 12 February 1809.His master piece “On the Origin of Species”His discoveries gave tremendous effect on evolutionism idea.
  2. In “On Origin of Species”, he described his main idea natural selection. What is Natural Selection?Natural population size tend to remain stable over time with constant resources.Individuals within a population vary from one another in many ways. For example, their ability to withstand environmental changes, compete for resources and escape from predators. Some traits which allow individuals to survive will be inherited from parents to offspring. Those variation of traits will lead to reproduce more successful and adopted population.
  3. In 1831, after he graduated from Cambridge University he set out for expedition to South Africa on HMS beagle. Finally in September 1835, Darwin arrived in the Galapagos Island.
  4. Even though, Darwin’s major discovery was various kind of finches not Iguana. But I am going to tell you the evolution of Iguana, because it is more obvious than finches. This is a Green Iguana, because of his green body.Green Iguana is a herbivore and it eats cactus and plants. It lives on the ground. However, because of climate change, he lost his foods. His cactus suddenly run out.Their peaceful life came to end.
