  • Google + is a social networking service operated by Google Inc. and was launched on June 28th 2011. Google+ integrates social services such as Google Profiles and Google Buzz, and introduces new services Circles, HangoutsWe are all familiar with these networks and also of networks that were not included in our timeline like Myspace, for example but its important to remind ourselves of just how recent these social networks came into being, how quickly we have changed the way we interact with one another as well.
  • Blendtec- a company that makes blenders, mills and mixers have been recognized for their use of Youtube to create a community around their products.Blendtec has its own Youtube channel called WillitBlend. The films are basically product demonstration videos featuring the Tom Dickson- the CEO of Blendtec blending all sorts different things ranging from a Justin Bieber doll, an XBox360 Kinect to an Iphone4
  • Blendtec’s channel as a total of 7,043, 655 channel views to date and over 160,000,000 total upload views. You can also find Blendtech on Facebook, where they have 7 different pages with a combined total of 38, 436 friends. On their website they have received over 70,000 likes. • Small companies are also able to use social media to create a buzz around their brands and products. If done well it can lead to engagement from loyal customers and success.
  • Kogi BBQ is a mobile Korean BBQ trust that travels by truck in the Los Angeles area selling Korean Mexican tacos. In October 2009 they had 45,000+ twitter followers and today they have over 90,000 followers. They use Twitter to send updates on when and where they will be setting up and selling tacos. They also update on if they are stuck in traffic and even the occasional traffic violation or run in with the police. In this way, Kogi BBQ is able to cover the entire Los Angeles area, increase brand awareness and interact with customers. Currently Kogi has five trucks in circulation.
  • Kogi can also be found on Facebook as well. They have over 20,000 friends and use the account in the same way as Twitter providing information about where they are located and any traffic issues. Due to their success have been able to open a restaurant called Chego, which has its own twitter and Facebook account. So far, the Chego twitter account has over 1,000 followers and I am sure that it will continue to increase. Chego has over 1,000 checkins on Facebook and on Foursquare they have over 2,000 checkins. On their Foursquare account they have reviews rave reviews from Bon Appetit magazine. LA weekly has listed their restaurants as one of the 99 essential restaurants in LA. Mashable calls them “the people who leveraged Twitter to make food trucks the hottest culinary trend in LA.  ----- Meeting Notes (8/14/11 14:13) -----In conclusion large and small companies can be successful in using social media but the bottom line is that companies do not need to be so concerned with number of fans, friends or followers they have. What is important is the quality of their products and services. I read on Facebook that a customer wanted a free taco because he had waited in line for three hours. He wasn't in line because of Kogi's twitter account or Facebook account. He was there because the food is delicious.
