Migration to SharePoint 2010 Transforms Computing
Environment and Increases Efficiency
A skin health and hygiene solutions company hired Blue Chip Consulting Group to
upgrade its core collaboration technology offering to the business by migrating its core
internal Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 environment to a Microsoft SharePoint
Server 2010 environment.
Blue Chip Consulting Group’s client was facing business inefficiency due to poor
performance of their existing Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 environment.
Web pages could take up to 15 seconds to load;; decreasing efficiency and productivity.
Search and browser support needed to be improved, and mobility increased. With
custom code, the need for automation, and integration of programs like Visio, the client
was looking for a trusted partner to assist in the adoption of SharePoint Server 2010.
The success of previous engagements, coupled with a strong understanding of
SharePoint, drove the client to re-engage with Blue Chip. Through multiple project
phases Blue Chip would use its knowledge of the client’s environment and SharePoint
expertise to successfully migrate 4 servers and data base clusters with over 1,000
users to a more efficient environment.
Working with the client Blue Chip first designed the production server environments,
including index, query, database and front-end web servers. In a build phase, the client
created the Virtual Machines and Database server before Blue Chip laid SharePoint
2010 and configured the SharePoint farm. In order to allow the client to gauge the
amount of custom code that would need to be re-written for the 2010 environment as
quickly as possible Blue Chip performed a test migration within several days of the
project. Detailed testing followed as issues were logged and solved by Blue Chip.
Iterative testing of the migration was also performed shortly after prototyping. With the
initial project phases successfully completed, Blue Chip moved into the production
phase. Over the course of three days Blue Chip sent the environment into production
and handled the Go-Live phase with speed and efficiency so that users were able to
start the following work week on the new SharePoint 2010 environment.

This solution moved the client to a more efficient and modern environment, while
maintaining the same look and feel of SharePoint 2007 that users were familiar with.
There is now continuity and usability not available in the old environment. With
SharePoint 2010 the client has the ability to create and automate basic workflows, like
budget initiators, a process that was done manually prior to migration. Integration with
Windows 7 and Visio has improved, pages are rendered within seconds and users have
become increasingly more mobile. Browsers like Google Chrome are now supported
and users have flexibility like never before. Migration to SharePoint 2010 increased
productivity by three times and aligned the client’s technical goals with business
strategies;; both factors that allow the client to maintain a competitive edge in the
industry and drive future success.
