  • 4. We will use FRACTIONS.Fractions are for counting PART of something.
  • 5. Let’s break the square into parts.There are 4 equal parts in a complete square.
  • 6. How many parts can you see? There is 1 equal part.
  • 7. Here is how we write it.We can write ¼ , which means1 equal parts out of 4 parts.
  • 8. Heres how we write it: ¼We read this like "one fourth."
  • 9. Heres how we write it: ¼The top number is called the numerator We read this like "one fourth."
  • 10. Heres how we write it: ¼The top number is called the numeratorThe top number is called the denominator We read this like "one fourth."
